I would like to introduce
myself.
Hi everyone-- My name is Victoria
and I love everything connected with the 50's. I was a
little girl in the 50's but
I remember that wonderful time so well. I can remember my mom
getting ready for work and watching
her. She was an executive secretary with a big
company in our town and she
had to look good every day. She would put on her ruby red
lipstick and she did not even
need any eye makeup, as she had naturally beautiful and
stunning eyes with dark lashes.
She would put a tiny bit of rouge on her cheeks and that
was all she needed. She used
to get her beautiful things ready to wear to work....a
crinnie....of course and a polka
dot dress that poufed out really big!
I was in awe of how beautiful
my mother was. When she went anywhere she always wore
dresses and looked like a doll!
My mother was a babe and I always wanted to look just like
her. When she used to pass my
dad in her nice silky dress, he used to pat her on the
behind and call her Toots! :-)
I have many wonderful memories
of the 50's. My mom had lots of friends and she would
take me to church teas and bazaars.
Well, she would make a big fuss about how a proper
girl should look and dress and
always have very good manners!
She would lay out my pretty little
dresses on her bed with my little gloves, hat and
crinoline. Everything had to
match so perfectly. I was a little Tomboy at the time, so I was
not excited about that sort
of thing and the effort it took to look good. I always thought I
was an "ugly duckling" but my
mom would say over and over to me, "Darling, someday
you will be the most beautiful
of them all and you will show them that pretty clothes are so
important, especially crinolines
and sweet bows." She would say, "You are mommy's girl
and you will be the best at
the church tea today." Sooo, off we would go with her friends
and my grandma to the tea. It
would be a feast for the eyes, as the ladies were simply
gorgeous in their full dresses
with yards and yards of petticoats.
As they were serving, moving
around and chatting, you could hear that wonderful sound,
the swiiiiish of the dresses
with crinolines and everyone was in a happy mood on a
beautiful sunny day. Lovely
to behold. I am thinking, "oh how my heart aches for that time
again. Where did we change and
lose it? Where is the feeling that came with it so much,
that tingle in my tummy, such
a delicious time period." My father would take my mother
out for the evening and we'd
be left with our babysitter, Helen, from down the street. She
would come over with her tight
pants and cropped blouses and I would sit and look at her
and wish that I could be her
age and look soooo pretty!
My dad was always proud to take
my
mother anywhere, as she always looked her best and
so did my father as well. Honestly,
my heart yearns for this time again. My heart beats
faster when I even look at books
or articles and especially so with photos of crinolines. I
am "in love" with the 50's and
always will be. That is my passion. I collect anything I can
find that will bring it back
to me somehow. When I love, I am very passionate. I love
Canada, the country where I
was born. It is such a beautiful place to live. It was so much
nicer in the 50's but any place
in the world was better back then. My little town is right
by Lake Huron and I can still
walk the walks I had with my mom. I can still hear her voice
telling me to always smile,
to hold my head up high and to always look my best, no matter
what! And, above all to have
good manners. These are some of my wonderful memories of
the 50's. I am back there right
now talking about it and experiencing that tingle in my
tummy. It's fun to make photo
CDs. It is my way of being right back there.
I hope you like the pictures!
Love, Victoria
